Medical Device: App for managing contrast injectors

For an important multinational pharmaceutical company, Dev4Side has developed an application that centralizes and manages data from radiological tests with contrast media within the hospital and that has achieved a ISO 13485 certification And theapproval by the FDA governing body.

The project lasted 6 years and saw Dev4Side engaged in the entire development process, from prototyping to delivery within large hospital facilities.

The application is used as a data management and visualization system, able to read, store, share, compare/link, as well as graphically display data and injection programs coming from RIS, PACS and multiple injector systems enabled. The device provides users with lists of recordings, graphs, and data and performance reports. The system is intended for the management and visualization of retrospective and statistical data.

The project has been designed and implemented to maintain compliance with components protected against known vulnerabilities and aligned with existing security baselines

  • Automate clinical and operational metrics
  • Establish benchmarks, audit, and manage enterprise-scale metrics
  • Track and measure productivity, monitor compliance, and support quality of care
  • Smart KPIs automatically monitor all aspects of contrast administration and help simplify procedures

The challenge

Develop a server-side medical software able to manage data relating to radiological examinations, injection protocols and contrast medium injectors in use in the hospital starting from a simple idea to prototype and redesign its interaction from a client-server perspective.

The software had to obtain ISO 13485 certification and had to be launched on the European and American markets.

Our Solution

We have designed a application with web interface, based on a plug-in architecture, capable of allowing specific features for each type of injector to be activated on the product and, at the same time, to guarantee a daily data load of a certain weight. They have been developed specific components for the distribution of web pages, for the remote management of different medical devices for the injection of contrast medium and for the necessary integration of RIS and PACS systems.

Connect information systems, share data and improve performance

The medical software we have developed can be synchronized with platforms and systems such as RIS/PACS and EMR to keep patient data up to date at all times. Users can share the data and information collected and easily keep track of the patient's medical history and the administration of contrast IV.

It is also possible to monitor performance in real time thanks to the presence of a intuitive KPI dashboard to identify opportunities for improvement and increase productivity accordingly.

Achieved Results

Our experts have finished and delivered the medical device in compliance with customer time-to-market.

The innovative software architecture that we decided to adopt is a novelty in the radiological field and has proven to be successful. The application is in fact able to support different types of medical devices simultaneously and to provide the hospital with a centralized point for managing the devices and the patient.

The software today

After obtaining ISO 13485 certification and being approved by the FDA, the medical software we developed has been introduced into hospitals around the world.

Currently, the application is used in more than 1500 facilities worldwide and manages to manage data from thousands of exams with contrast medium without any problem.
